TrueContact Tour 54

Back at Rocky Mountain Motorsports!

Once again Rocky Mountain Motorsports hosted another Continental Tire Canada event launching the new TrueContact Tour54. Being familiar with these events for Continental Tire, I knew that there would be various on-track testing in multiple conditions and a classroom technical, sell features, and warranty session, which happened to be spot on.

The TrueContact Tour 54

The TrueContact Tour 54 is an EV-compatible long-lasting, premium all-season touring tire for passenger cars and crossovers with up to 128,000 km mileage warranty, 840 treadwear rating, and Continental Tire’s Total Confidence Plan.

Similarly to last year’s ExtremeContact Sport 02 event, the tire testing consisted of three courses: two autocross sections on the East side and lead-follow on the West track layout along with a warranty and classroom training at the main structures.

The first was a regular autocross track where you weave through the slaloms in dry conditions, execute a U-turn, and weave through on the return in wet condition and full emergency brake at the end. To achieve wet conditions in the middle of a heatwave in July, that portion of the course was artificially made wet every few passes. This course was achieved with Chevrolet Trailblazers. What was evident was the grip both laterally and sure-footedness in the wet inspiring confidence even to the point one participant ended up with a check engine light due to the aggressive driving. The Trailblazers were being put through their paces.

On the second autocross track, similar in function to the first, GMC Terrain Denalis were utilized. One is equipped with the TrueContact Tour 54 and the other with the Goodyear Assurance Finesse. The Terrains, being much heavier and more powerful than the Trailblazers, was an important test of the tires. The compact crossover segment is extremely popular in North America and thus a common vehicle on the roads. Driving the Terrains with the TrueContact Tour 54s allowed one to experience the common size and handling of this segment while having direct and confident handling compared to the Goodyear Assurance Finesse. Participants jokingly called it the “Costco parking lot test” of trying to find a parking spot during the weekend rush while avoiding pedestrians, carts, and vehicles.

In all, the TrueContact Tour 54 delivers on the dry and wet handling and braking front. That 128,000km with the Total Confidence Plan will inspire long-term confidence in the tires for the masses. This tire is perfect for those driving to work or long family road trips. If one needs an ultra-high performance all-season tire, well Continental will gladly sell you the ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus too, which is the current tire on my vehicle.

We meet again: ExtremeContact Sport 02

Last year I tested and wrote about the ExtremeContact Sport 02 in the wet in the lead follow event with Ford Mustangs and I wrote:

“With each lap, the instructor increased speed and we all maintained our distance and pushed the Mustangs and ExtremeContact Sport 02 in the rain. It provides confidence at every turn, especially in wet conditions.

Overall, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is an excellent confident ultra high-performance tire. If it is that good in the wet, it’ll be even better in the dry!”

Well having now tested the tire again, this time in the scorching southern Alberta heat, I can fully attest to the dry handling and braking performance of the tire. It grips tightly around corners never once squealing in pain and braking was confident and linear. This ultra-high performance summer tire also has a 50,000 km limited warranty, 3-year roadside assistance and a 60-day trial, all part of the Total Confidence Plan.
